I find the talk of black hole creation and subsequent swallowing of the Earth quite humorous. Of course a lot of that ignorant chatter is coming from religious circle jerks. (multiple puns intended)

Actually, there's a really good possibility of micro black hole creation around the 7 TeV level. But an earth swallowing one? Not very likely. Personally, I am all jazzed up about finding (if they exist) sparticles. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SuperpartnerI will have major wood if we find the elusive gravitino... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GravitinoWe find that puppy and life just got 1000x more interesting....

Do you understand the Higgs effect? In a nutshell, it's the theoretical process that transforms energy into mass.
Take a photon. Apply the Higgs effect and voila. Matter appears.
The curious part here is gravity. It's a weak force. It's thought to have leaked over from another dimension (I think the 5th).
If we discover Higgs, we should discover gravitrons, and their sparticle...
That is interesting. And if we get that far, we might learn about dark energy.

I just like the word, Sparticle. And yes, I'm aware that micro black holes could be formed. I just thought it was funny that some folks felt it necessary to declare the sky was going to fall yet again and that this machine was going to be a doomsday device. People are funny.
I guess dark matter is the holy grail, along with String Theory and Supersymmetry. I'm excited by what this thing might find as long as it doesn't keep breaking. Like anything this complicated I imagine there are plenty of bugs to work out.

Dude.
It's a machine 17 miles wide...
